Boy do I have bad luck with libraries.
Some of you may remember nearly 5 years ago when we moved to Illinois the trouble I had getting a library card out there.
Then there was the librarian who wouldn't give me my items on the hold shelf (even though I'd just returned a stack of books and even though I knew my card number off by heart) because I'd left my card at home. Carly and I'd walked the almost-mile to the library that cold fall day. She actually said that she couldn't give it to me because she didn't know me. "I haven't been to your house, I don't know who you are...."
Anyone who knows me well knows that I can be obsessive about the library and about books. Books make me *happy sigh* There have been weeks that I've been at the library 3-4 days.
"Tis true.
That brings us to today.
Well, to a couple days ago anyway.
I brought home my new library card last Saturday and got online to request some new reads.
Today I went in to pick up the book that was on hold for me and was told at checkout,
"You do know that there's a .25 fee for putting books on hold, don't you?"
"Erm....no. Why is there a fee for that?"
"Because we've had too many people request books and not pick them so now we charge a fee and people pick them up in a timely manner."
I may be wrong here but isn't that like fining you for doing the RIGHT thing?
I sent the Altoona library an email about that one. That is just ridiculous.
I mean really, if they don't pick them up then just put it back on the shelf like EVERY OTHER LIBRARY DOES.
*duh*
