Finding Healing by Adessa Holden

Finding Healing by Adessa Holden is the story of one family who overcame abuse and found the way to healing. The lifelong quest for freedom, forgiveness, and learning the art of healing through discussion and journaling is one the author details to help others live a victorious life while overcoming past hurts. This book is raw with emotion and vulnerability and has the potential to loosen chains of bondage in the lives of believers and non-believers. Adessa urges the reader to first grow close to the Lord and then to allow His Holy Spirit to reveal the hidden areas that need to change.
"If you hear the Holy Spirit calling you answer His call with a resounding yes. Give Him the freedom to play an active role in your life," is just one truth I found in this book. "Spending time with Jesus....is like physical therapy for our hearts and minds," is another.
If you've suffered abuse of any kind I urge you to read this book and allow the Lord to begin the healing process in you.

When God Made You by Matthew Paul Turner

When God Made You by Matthew Paul Turner is a delightful story in prose. The pages are filled with the vibrant artwork of David Catrow and go along well with the words. This book will remind your child that God knew them before He made them and that He made them just the way He wanted them to be. A sweet story with a simple truth. God made you and nothing about your life is a mistake.

Moving Target by Lynette Eason

Moving Target by Lynette Eason is a fast-paced book that captures the reader on the first page and keeps your attention throughout the journey. This is the latest in the Elite Guardians series and my favorite thus far. I enjoyed the story of Maddy and Quinn and how they were able to outwit their villain and escape. This novel has action and mystery along with a little romance. I was able to read this in one day and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

A Note Yet Unsung by Tamera Alexander

A Note Yet Unsung by Tamera Alexander is a welcome addition to my readings this winter. This book takes place in Victorian Nashville and introduces us to Rebekah Carrington and Tate Whitcomb. Rebekah is a natural musician and a master of several instruments, her dream is to play in the male-dominated symphony. Tate is the director of the Nashville symphony and refuses her admittance. They both overcome numerous obstacles as they weave through the troubles of their pasts and realize they need each other. Very well written and nearly 400 pages, this is one to savor. I enjoyed every minute of this book except for the part when a character referred to a black man as a N*****. I thought that could have been left out or simply referred to as a slur.

Be Bold - A Coloring Devotional by Ellen Elliott

Coloring is the latest rage amongst adults and this book, Be Bold (a coloring devotional by Ellen Elliott), is the latest entry by Tyndale. Coloring is stated to be relaxing and perfect for any age. I like that this book features scriptures and devotions along with several pages towards the back for your own doodling. There is plenty to meditate on while you're coloring and it's all uplifting and will point your thoughts to the Lord. There are sixty-two pages of devotions/coloring and it will keep you busy for hours.
Pages are clean and easy to read. Coloring pages are delightful and not too hard.

Life After by Katie Ganshert

Life After by Katie Ganshert is a beautifully written tale of a lone survivor's struggle with picking up the pieces after being in an attack on a train in Chicago. Autumn wakes in the hospital and remembers nothing of the attack, she learns she's the only one who made it out alive and becomes obsessed with the lives and deaths of the ones who didn't live.
This book was not at all what I expected it to be. After reading thousands of books in my lifetime there aren't many that veer from the normal story pattern. This one had twists I never saw coming and was truly a pleasure to read. It gripped my heart and I saw myself in the story and I also saw some friends.
This is new this spring by Waterbrook Press and I highly recommend it.

Ready to Fumble by Christy Barritt

When I find an author I love I read my way through their library. I've spent most of this winter reading Christy Barritt's Squeaky Clean series and the spin-offs from it. I love her sense of humor and the mysteries that are clean and contain nothing that makes me cringe.

Her newest book Ready to Fumble is the start of a new collection titled The Worst Detective Ever Mystery Series. This book introduces us to Joey Darling, known to the world of television as Raven Remington: TV sleuth. Fiction isn't real life and even Joey Darling isn't her real name. Joey leaves Hollywood and speculation of her life for the east coast where she finds herself hired in a real investigation. Using what she remembers from her years of filming a detective show and trying not to get herself killed in the process, she dodges a stalker, bad guys, people who know too much, people who recognize her, and even some interesting love interests.

This book had me giggling from the start as I entered Joey's world. It was a fun read and left me wanting more. Can't wait for the rest of this fun new series.
