What's In The Bible by Phil Vischer

Phil Vischer. Remember him? He's the guy who brought us Veggie Tales. Ahhh, nothing like Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber (and his alter-ego Larry-Boy!) Veggie Tales were a staple in our house as our kids were growing up. Release day of new episodes called for a 45 minute drive to the closest Christian bookstore that carried the videos and a 45 minute return trip before we could enjoy our new treasure.

Did you know:
Kids today consume a staggering five hours of media each day, and may spend about one hour a week in church. Seven out of ten American adults believe kids receive inadequate spiritual instruction. For conservative Christians, the number rises to nine out of ten. It’s no wonder the Church is so biblically illiterate:

· 64% of Americans said they did not read the Bible because they are too busy.

· In a report on America’s religious illiteracy, USA Today reported that 50% of high school seniors think Sodom and Gomorrah were married.

· A 2000 study showed that 60% of evangelical Christians believed that Jesus was born in Jerusalem rather than Bethlehem.

· Only half of American adults can name even one of the four Gospels

Finally, Phil is back! And this time he takes us though the Bible.

This brand new 13-part series from Tyndale combines the silliness that we expect from Vischer and the seriousness of the lesson he wants to teach. Vischer uses live action, animation and puppets to get his message across to kids of all ages. He's even got some singing Elvis-type guys in full 1970s garb to help him out. I loved the interaction between Phil and the puppets in the first and second episodes.

In The Beginning introduces the Bible to the viewer. It explains who wrote the books of Bible, who inspired it, what the Bible is and of course includes some of the songs that Vischer is famous for ("Did he just say buy-uh-bull?") Follow Jelly-News anchor Buck Denver as he tells the story like no one has before.

Let My People Go continues our trek through the Bible with more stories of the Old Testament, including all about Moses and teaching us exactly what a covenant is. Phil's long-awaited return was definitely worth the wait!

This DVD series will have your little ones captivated and I'm sure will lead to them acting out their own Bible-hero adventures.

Ok, ya talked me into it. (smile). My son loves Veggie Tales and my two nephews do as well. I'm taking a ride to South Hills today to the book store to pick up Easter cards and gifts so I'll check these videos out while I'm there.

Thanks,
