Dwelling Places by Lucinda Secrest McDowell

Dwelling Places by Lucinda Secrest McDowell is a beautifully written devotional with personal stories applied to life situations. Every one is focused on one word and provides a scripture and a prayer to go along with it. There are one hundred thirty words to learn from and the book is separated into seasons and sections (Dwell, Shine, Renew, Grow). Sometimes I get too busy to sit down and spend an extended time reading the Word and this book provides an easy way to make sure I'm feeding my spirit with the things of God.
Drown out the busyness and noise of everyday life and find a deeper faith with something as simple as a single word in Lucinda Secrest McDowell's new book, Dwelling Places. Through short and inspiring readings, McDowell unpacks a single word—such as mercy, beauty, gratitude, or grace—to reveal a biblical blessing or challenge relevant to where you are. Full of stories and illustrations to empower you to live the word you have just read, each devotional ends with a benediction, written as if God were speaking directly to you.

Sea Rose Lane by Irene Hannon

Sea Rose Lane is the perfect breezy summer read. It is laid back and relaxing. Light and refreshing. Irene Hannon is known for her romantic suspense, but she's great at pure romance too. This story is about tentative BJ who doesn't want to risk losing her heart to Eric, who is only in town for an extended vacation while he's in between jobs. They both grow personally in this book and push themselves to do things they never thought they could. Very easy book to fall into.

The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book by Dr. David Jeremiah

Dr. David Jeremiah has long been a trusted voice in Biblical teaching. The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book is a little volume packed full of important information. Almost each page is dedicated to a different question and answer ranging from basic Christian theology to the deeper issues. I appreciate this handy guide so much. It's perfect for using when teaching others the why and how to spiritual warfare. This book also takes a detailed look at the Armor of God and what its role is in the life of a Christian. This could be one of the most important books you ever purchase. It has the potential to change the way you live the Christian life.

All Summer Long by Melody Carlson

Melody Carlson has long been one of the authors I know I can trust for a clean read. This book is clean but is almost juvenile. Some of the characters act so immature that I had a hard time staying focused (particularly Natalie). I would recommend this book as a YA novel and not adult fiction. It was sweet and generally easy to read (finished in about two hours) and was predictable. If you're looking for something that you can relax with on the beach then this might be the book for you.

Kill Devil by Mike Dellosso

Kill Devil by Mike Delloso is a Jed Patrick novel and is part of a series though it reads fine as a stand alone. I've not read others in this series and I didn't have any problem keeping up with the book. The reader is immersed in the action as soon as the story begins. I had a hard time putting this one down and read it in about two hours. There is mystery, intrigue, and murder. There is a government cover up, CIA action, and more. I loved the fast pace of this and appreciated the way it unfolded in my mind as I read it. There is a definite Christian message included which was also nice to see.

Sister Eve and the Blue Nun by Lynne Hinton

Sister Eve and the Blue Nun is the third in a series by Lynne Hinton. I haven't read the other two but was able to find my way alright in this book. Unfortunately I found this to be quite dull and didn't make it to the end. It didn't capture my attention and I put it down only to forget about it.

Medical Judgment by Richard L. Mabry, M.D.

I've been reading Richard Mabry's books for several years and they just keep getting better. Medical Judgment is his latest and it is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep you up until the last word is read. Doctor Sarah Gordon is still reeling from the death of her husband and daughter when someone tries to burn down her house. Instead of cowering in fear she decides to fight back until she can be over this once and for all. There are many suspects and once again, Mabry kept me guessing until the end. If you like medical thrillers then I urge you to check out his books. Each one shows the hand of God guiding the characters through decisions and trials. Excellent reading with uplifting messages through the messy lives.

Just what the doctor ordered: heart-thumping suspense and intrigue, courtesy of Richard Mabry’s new medical drama, Medical Judgment. Someone is after Dr. Sarah Gordon. They’ve stalked her and set a fire at her home. Trying to recover from the traumatic deaths of her husband and infant daughter is tough enough, but she has no idea what will come next. As the threats on her life continue to escalate, so do the questions: Who is doing this? Why are they after her? And with her only help being unreliable suitors in competition with each other, whom can she really trust?

Join Richard in celebrating the release of Medical Judgment by entering to win an e-reader!

The Valley of the Dry Bones by Jerry B. Jenkins

Jerry B. Jenkins is back with a novel unlike any I've ever read. The Valley of the Dry Bones is set in drought-ridden California in a nearly uninhabitable era. There are a few stragglers here and there among groups of Native Americans who have never left their land. The Holdouts is one such group. This band of believers has managed to avoid captivity and eviction while living under the radar. Their location is known only to them and they do whatever they have to to survive.
This book had my full attention from the first page. It was easy to read and understand and the story came alive in my mind. With a very strong salvation message and hope in a world of hopelessness, this book shows the reader that it is possible to serve God and hear His voice no matter the circumstance. Very well written and highly recommended.
